Patrick Kenny had the exact kind of retail acumen Eisenbud was looking for. As managing director and partner at Traub, a firm that’s worked with what it calls “iconic celebrities in building their businesses”—Jessica Simpson, Paul Newman, Dita Von Teese, as well as brands like The North Face, MoMA, and Related Urban—his company could help take Sugarpova to the next step.
The lines are starting to blur,” says Mortimer Singer, CEO of the retail consumer advisory firm Traub. “It’s not about old versus young, big versus small, online or offline. Across the board, it’s brands that are seen as authentic, as embracing and embodying a set of values, and communicating directly with global consumers that are succeeding today.
“The design and storytelling around supplements is much more approachable today,” says Kelsey Groome, managing director for Traub, a business-development firm that tracks the wellness industry. “It’s all about inclusivity and community.”
"The key element is thinking of retail as hospitality and underscoring the human element," says Kelsey Groome, managing director at Traub, a retail consultancy.
As co-founder and CEO of Orchard Mile, Jennie Baik wants to change the way we shop in the digital age. And her co-founder and close advisor, Morty Singer, helps her separate the big issues from the tiny hurdles.
“I’m hoping this is the beginning of an avalanche of these kinds of deals because it’s exactly the right thing for [companies] to be doing,” said Mortimer Singer, ceo of Traub.
Kelsey Groome, managing director at Marvin Traub Associates, said: “It’s enabling that customer to take a more creative fashion risk and be more experimental in her wardrobing. There’s certainly a path to purchase through rental, but I think it is a service and way to engage with the customer that’s strengthening the bond with him or her. The customer will buy the basics and really use a rental platform as enhancing that and creating newness in her daily life.”
“You definitely get two personalities, assuming they are personalities,” said Mortimer Singer, president and CEO of business development firm Marvin Traub Associates.
“When you think about wellness it’s not only physical but also mental,” explains Daniella Fischel, a senior associate at TRAUB.
“Wellness is an approach to living life that is becoming as second nature as brushing teeth,” says Kelsey Groome, managing director at TRAUB.
Younger consumers are said to be moving away from buying “things,” but there’s a lot behind the perceived shift.

The ancient human need to explain the vastness of the universe through storytelling and mythology is what’s driving millennial consumer culture today in the US, argues Maggie Montagna and Mortimer Singer.  (more…)
